This digital learning series is designed for individuals or groups who wish to increase their professional learning about educational topics. This module, Professional Learning Standards, begins with a question to ponder as the starting point for learning and conversation. Each area has resources and thinking tasks to help guide the learning.
Assumptions
ACTIVITY What are the underlying assumptions or beliefs reflected in the responses to the question? Consider a school or district that lives in the cycle of continuous improvement. Discuss with a thought partner what could be observed in that school or district. How would it be evident that they were in this cycle? List what could be observed. |
|
Contextualization
Revisit your lists from the Assumptions portion. Based on your new and/or increased understanding of the PL Standards from your research and learning, as a group share your lists then add, delete, or edit that as appropriate to come to a consensus. Consider, in your own context, how can Professional Learning Standards can be used in your planning, implementation, and evaluation of Professional Learning? Choose a notetaker to jot down the group's thinking. As a group, brainstorm and discuss what full implementation of the Professional Learning Standards in your district would look like. Consider sharing, messaging, policy development, change in practice, change in mindset, resources, etc. |
Reflection
You've been considering what the Professional Learning Standards are and how it will look when fully implemented. Now flip the script and think about what kind of breakdown occurs when one of the professional standards is missing. Reflect individually on this scenario of a missing standard for 3 minutes recording your thoughts. Each person in the group then has 1 minute to share his/her thoughts and then the group has 2 minutes to ask questions or make comments. |
